Custodian: Category A - Second ShiftHours: 1:30pm-9:30pm - Flex Schedule (Sunday - Thursday)Custodian: Category A - Second Shift (Sunday - ThursdayAlternate work locations of other school buildings and Town of Portsmouth buildings, as directed.
Hours: 1:30pm-9:30pmPosition Definition: A custodian is the caretaker of the school facility to which they are assigned; and charged with maintaining and continually improving that facility as a safe, secure, clean, orderly and functional environment of learning.
All duties and responsibilities shall be performed in accordance with established standards, procedures and protocols; and within timelines that will not interfere with the schools operational schedule.
This position is included in the Council 94, Local 2669 Union Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Supervision: This position is under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Facilities Director and Building Principal.
General Duties: Duties and responsibilities common to all levels in the Custodial Series shall include but not be limited to the following areas: Computer SkillsMicrosoft Office and Google software, including emailCustodial Cleaning: Cleans and maintains assigned classrooms, dining and assembly areas, hallways, stairways and storage areas, restrooms, locker rooms, shower rooms and other internal athletic and recreational areas, sidewalks and exterior walkways serving the premises, offices, meeting rooms and common areasUses brooms, mops, and light- and heavy-duty floor cleaning equipment to sweep, mop, strip and wax floors Uses any required procedures to control and minimize dust accumulation Uses vacuum cleaners to clean rugs, carpets, walls, ceilings and lighting fixtures, cabinets, lockers, furniture and window treatmentsCleans and sanitizes toilet areas, washrooms, showers, locker rooms and drinking water distribution units Washes walls, ceilings, woodwork, interior window surfaces, window treatments, doors and sillsCustodial Maintenance: Cleans, services and makes minor repairs and adjustments to heating & ventilations systems, plumbing systems.
Replaces light bulbs Performs touch up and finish paintingMonitors the waste management plan including any segregation, recycling, cleaning and/or sanitation components Maintains driveways, parking areas, entrances and passageways as appropriate to clear snow, ice, standing water, leaves, debris and/or other impediments to safe passageSecurity: At the beginning of each working period (shift), ensures that all doors and locking systems are functionalAt the end of each working period, ensures that all access and egress points are secured and that electronic alarms or surveillance systems are activated and functionalCode Compliance: Follows all applicable health, safety and code compliance rules, regulations and procedures; executes any and all custodial components of communicable disease prevention and control plansRaises and lowers Federal and State flags at appropriate intervalsControls all cleaning solutions, compounds and chemicals during use, prohibiting access by students and staffSecurely stores all cleaning solutions, compounds and chemicals when not in useFacility Utilization & Support Service: Sets up, breaks down and appropriately stores furniture and equipment used to facilitate meetings, functions and assemblyRelocates, retrieves and/or delivers furniture, furnishings, supplies and materials from one area to anotherAssists with breakfast and/or lunch programs as required Resource Conservation & Business Practices: Maintains practices that help to ensure economical use of all resources, including but not limited to fuel, water, electricity and custodial maintenance equipment and suppliesReports accomplishments verbally and/or records work assignments, progress and related details as directed Processes work requests in accordance with detail standards and within established timelines Other: Other duties as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications: General knowledge of maintenance and repairs to buildings and structures; carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting and one year prior work experience in building maintenance & repair work and general custodial duties.

High School diploma or GEDValid Drivers license.
