Job Summary: SAIC is seeking an organized and motivated Embedded Systems Engineer who will effectively support a fast-paced work environment with the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division in Middleton, RI.
You will be part of a collaborative team of multidiscipline.
Engineers and support technicians working to bring a variety of electrical designs from the early concept stage all the way through fabrication.
The local Middletown office supports automated test equipment design, printed circuit board design (PCB), cable design, and acoustic system design.
Support can vary from Research & Development to Production Support tailoring both skills and interests of the prospective employee to fill the role.
Location: Work is performed on site but allows for some remote/work at home.
The on-site work is at 28 Jacome Way, Middletown, RI, and/or the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport.
Work Schedules: Flexible work schedule options are also available.
If desired, engineers may partake in SAIC’s 9/80 schedule to have every other Friday off or a 4/10 schedule if desired.

Your projects will include the design, documentation and testing of a wide variety of electrical and electronic systems in the areas of undersea defensive systems, torpedo test equipment, automated test equipment (ATE), sonar electronics, other evolving tasking.
You will have powerful computer, software, and test equipment resources at your disposal to allow you to be effective and efficient in your job.
Job Duties: Design, actualize, and launch embedded software/firmware for microcontrollers, FPGAs, and similar environments.
Architect Hardware solutions with Electrical Engineers and assist in schematic capture/board layouts.
Integrate and test embedded software/firmware on embedded hardware.
Identify and resolve software/firmware related hardware issues through debugging and testing processes.
Collaborate with multidisciplined engineering and non-engineering team members.
Create and maintain design specific technical, as well as formal, documentation.
Interface directly with customers to extract requirements, generate a plan and report status.

4+ years in embedded system design, analysis, and testing.
Familiarity with System Engineering concepts.
Hands on troubleshooting using test equipment to help isolate problems and ability to generate solutions.
Fluent in C/C++, VHDL and/or Verilog.
Experience with Xilinx’s FPGA and Development Suites CLEARANCE REQUIRMENT: Must be able to initially obtain an Interim Secret Clearance and then obtain and hold an Active Secret Clearance for the duration of work on the contract.
Must hold US Citizenship DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: PCB design with Mentor Graphics PADS Layout, Cadence OrCAD PCB Designer, Altium, or Eagle.
Experience with MATLAB, data manipulation, processing, and visualization.
FPGA experience using Vivado for Xilinx hardware (FPGAs, SOCs, MPSOCs etc.
) or Quartus for Intel products in Verilog and/or VHDL.
Developing and executing test plans for electronic subsystems.
Experience with soldering and debugging circuits.
Hands on lab experience using oscilloscopes, function generators, network analyzers etc.
Experience with marine hardware including ROVs, UUVs, sonar, arrays, and transducers.
Familiarity with National Instruments (NI) products including PXI hardware, LabVIEW, CVI, or TestStand.
Experience with embedded operating systems such as Xilinx’s PetaLinux, or RTOS.
Familiarity with device drivers, on both bare-metal and OS systems, for peripheral sensors/actuators and other devices.
Experience with communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, or CAN, and other technical standards such as LVDS and SSI.
