Position: NAV Systems Engineer Nature of Role: MIKEL is currently seeking an experienced Navigational Systems Engineer to be part of our dynamic, high exposure test team.
The Systems Engineer will provide technical support in the area of Navigational and Radar software.
This Systems Engineer will work with team members to ensure the test team performs all necessary test and evaluation milestones, test events, platform builds for the submarine fleet, and high-visibility development builds for testing cutting edge systems.
The Systems Engineer is required to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of the Voyage Management System (VMS), Mission Planning Application (MPA), Tactical Control System (TCS), Payload Control System (PCS), Common Infrastructure System (CIS), all Cybersecurity software, Strike subsystem components, and various TEMPALTs with how they integrate with the AN/BYG-1 Fire Control System.
The Systems Engineer will work with team members during test events to ensure all test procedure steps are accomplished within the parameters of the test, record all findings, and consolidate and submit reports to the customer for review.
This position carries a high level of exposure and accountability in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
Shift work will be required without issue.
Candidates must be equipped and able to work as part of a highly skilled and multi-functional, multi-disciplined team in order to maintain support and assist in AN/BYG-1 Formal Test, Dry Runs, Regression Testing, Validation and Verification testing.
This candidate will work closely with the Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to develop solutions that impact logistics and maintenance.
The candidate will also develop plans, procedures, and technical documentation used to test the weapons systems; these procedures may be broken down to the step level.
The Systems Engineer opportunity provides unique exposure to multiple submarine baselines from legacy systems to state of the art Submarine Combat Control platforms.
Qualified applicants will be self-starters, have a strong background in problem-solving and analytical skills, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
Candidates must also be self-motivated, reliable to deliver on time, quick thinking, be able to work in a fast-paced work environment and be familiar and comfortable with using computer software/programs or systems engineering and analysis.
Technical writing skills are required to support the generation of Navigation documents and procedures.
This candidate should possess overall Navigation employment as it pertains to the SSN.
A derivative of this exposure is the development of a well-rounded, advanced level of knowledge of systems administration, network administration, software and hardware troubleshooting, and process documentation.
Responsibilities: Verify and assist with the testing of Voyage Management System (VMS) and Tactical Control Systems (TCS) testing Participation in SE and T&E milestones including Test Readiness Review (TRR), VMS/MPA testing, System Design Certification Testing (SDCT), System Delivery Verification Review (SDVR), and Design readiness Review (DRR) Develop and implement Navy ECDIS into the Submarine Force Provide SME support to Submarine platforms on Navigation technical issues Provide SME input on test procedures to product developers Perform related test report and brief generation, provide related briefs and briefing materials.
Perform test assessment Perform and assist in test, test conduct, analysis, and reporting activities with related working groups and organizations Some off-shift support required Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
Eight (8) years of experience in developmental or operational use of the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS-N) and Voyage Management System (VMS) Qualified Submarine Assistant Navigator Familiarity with Submarine specific navigation, RADAR and Mission Planning Application.
Proven ability to successfully and efficiently monitor systems.
