We are seeking a full-time Front-End Engineer.
This position can be remote, or you can work in one of our office locations in Anchorage, AK; Portland, OR; or North Kingstown, RI.

WHAT WILL YOU DO? Your role will involve working with business partners and stakeholders and leveraging their data sets to build operational front-end visualization and analysis applications.
Much of the work will involve scientific data sets, though research is not our primary focus.
Some projects in our portfolio are the National Science Foundation-funded Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI)'s Data Explorer, Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) Animal Telemetry Network, Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS) Data Portal and the Eyes on the Storm hurricane data portal.
The main focus will be on building the next generation of Axiom’s flagship web application framework.
This framework will allow Axiom and its partners to search, discover, analyze, download, and visualize large scientific datasets.
This new system is in the planning stages, and you will have a large ownership stake in the process, technology, and vision.
Please note: We are exclusively interested in front-end software engineers, this is not a design position.
In addition to working on Axiom's flagship product, you will support the modernization and migration of existing applications written and maintained by the team, support the development of new features, and build new targeted front-end applications from the ground up to better serve our partners and clients.
WHAT WILL YOU WORK WITH? Our technology stack is constantly evolving, and we rely upon our engineers to make decisions to accelerate the growth of our capabilities.

This position will work to retire older technologies in the upcoming calendar year in favor of a clear and standardized way to create front-end applications at Axiom.
You will work with scientific data and the problems associated with visualizing large volume data sets using web technologies such as interactive maps, graphs, and plots WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? We are looking for engineers with a demonstrated history of developing and delivering real-world front-end applications, and that you have some of the following skills and experiences: • 4+ years of relevant experience working as a front-end developer or UI/UX engineer • Expertise in at least one modern front-end development and web framework • Expertise in modern front-end development tooling and best practices • Proven track record of successfully architecting and deploying large front-end applications • Experience defining API requirements to drive the development of front-end visualizations • Experience in full-stack web application development, including database design, architecture, services, and APIs • Experience working with scientific data (vectors, rasters, time-series) • Self-motivation, independence, flexibility, and a problem-solving attitude Applicants should submit a resume and/or cover letter describing how your experiences fit with the desired qualifications and what drove you to apply for the position.
