Summary: Reports to the Administrative Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC).
Enhances the care and experience of patients in the CCC by providing evidence based acupuncture focused on relief of symptoms related to the treatment of cancer.
Acupuncture is provided to help manage treatment-related side effects such as nausea lack of appetite pain fatigue and emotional distress.
Responsibilities: Performs appropriate history relevant systems review develops treatment plan for patients in an outpatient setting as appropriate.
Adjusts and administers acupuncture treatment to outpatients based on clinician referral.
Treatment is given in a variety of settings (seated in semi-open areas lying down in private rooms etc).
Manages a diverse group of patients in a complex environment and in collaboration with other team members.
Documents all acupuncture care information in patient medical record according to standards.
Provides culturally aware and individualized patient education answers patient questions during outpatient visits and provides written education material as appropriate.
Responds to email telephone calls and text pages as necessary to provide follow-up patient care.
Maintains excellent electronic written and verbal communications with other team members including other departments via in-person meetings emails phone calls and webcast.
Complies with all hospital standards and practices for infection control including hand washing sharps disposal/safety etc.
Other information: QUALIFICATIONS-EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited program of acupuncture by the National Accreditation Commission for Schools and Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Current board certification by NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).
License to practice as Doctor of Acupuncture in the State of Rhode Island.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Exposed to patient care/general hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.
Position requires frequent standing walking and sitting.
