Summary:
Performs mammographic examinations to include screening and diagnostic breast needle localizations and specimen radiographs.
In addition performs routine diagnostic radiology procedures for patients of all ages to include: neonates children adolescents adults and geriatric patients.
Responsibilities:
Interviews patients to obtain accurate medical history physician address and enters data into mammography system.
Demonstrates ability to differentiate between a screening and diagnostic mammogram based upon clinical indication and patient history and checks discrepancies with Radiologist when necessary.
Demonstrates ability to perform all views required for screening and diagnostic mammography to include:
- Cranialcaudal
- Mediolateral
- Oblique
- coned down compression
- Magnification
- �Tail �
- �Twist�
- Augmentation
- BB localization of dermal lesions
- Other views as requested by radiologist
Sets up room using aseptic techniques for special exams i.
e.
biopsies localizations and assists radiologists in breast localizations utilizing sterile technique.
Performs and documents all QA/QC tests as mandated by the State of Rhode Island FDA and ACR underneath of senior mammography technologist.
Assists patients in requesting information on breast cancer and provides patients with printed literature on mammography and ACS recommended guidelines and reading procedure.
Checks and reviews the technical quality of all mammography images and understands:
- effects of KV
- Film/screen combination
- Compression
- Positioning
- Processing
- Proper selection of AEC modes and manual techniques per patient.
Demonstrates ability to evaluate images and take additional films as necessary.
Demonstrates knowledge of procedures to report equipment-related problems to proper authority.
Checks equipment and mammography accessories (compression paddle grids etc.
) to ensure they operate properly and reports failures to lead technologist.
Provides reassurance to patients as necessary.
Reviews patient schedule and coordinates patient flow with other mammo tech to insure optimum use of schedule.
Maintains adequate inventory of supplies
Other information:
Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent and satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology training of two years duration.
ARRT registered.
Holds a valid State of Rhode Island Radiographer license.
At least 3- 6 months experience as a Radiologic Technologist performing routine diagnostic radiology exams.
ARRT Registered in Mammography or registry eligible with a commitment to taking and successfully passing the registry within one year.
Current CPR certification.
Must be able to stand/walk 3-7 hours squat 1-3 hours per day with frequent bending and twisting and lift 10-35 lbs with good body mechanics.
Must be able to use both hands/wrists with extensive deviation and frequent fine motor movement with repetition.
Near/far vision accurate at 20/40 and moderate depth perception with minimal color discrimination.
Must hear whisper at three feet.
