*Job Description:*Provides patient care in the pediatric setting.
Assists providers and staff in coordinating patient care.
Functions as a primary liaison between patients, families, staff and providers.
*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:* * Performs and properly document procedures, including but not limited to, vital signs, throat cultures, respiratory treatments, dressing changes, ear irrigations, tympanogram.
* Administers medications using proper technique and documentation as prescribed by the physician or nurse practitioner.
* Acts as liaison between provider and patient.
* Escorts patient to the examination room, collecting, reporting, and documenting data, including, but not limited to, patient’s chief complaint, vital signs, weight, height, head circumference, current medications, oximetry level, and patient comfort level.
* Demonstrating a clear understanding of emergency care when needed * Update the medical records for provider’s review.
* Send electronic prescriptions in to pharmacies as directed by provider and document the call.
* Performs sensory screenings as indicated by pre-written parameters.
* Respects and maintains levels of patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
* Collect specimens for diagnostic studies and perform other procedures, completing the necessary documentation as directed by the provider.
* Assist with procedures utilizing aseptic technique, application of minor dressings.
* Maintains medical equipment in proper working order, including cleaning of instruments.
* Communicates plan of care to patients as directed by provider, including test results, treatment modalities, setting up home therapies for patient use, prescription drug instructions and other patient education.
* Calls hospital to obtain any necessary results such as labs, x-rays, in a timely manner.
* Arranges for patient’s diagnostic testing and admission.
* Facilitates communication between nursing and front desk staff for optimal patient care.
* Checks expiration dates on all samples and formulas at regular intervals.
* Checks expiration dates on the emergency cart, making sure supplies are replenished.
* Assists with orientation and precepting of fellow employees as directed by Nurse Manager.
* Performs patient teaching as warranted.
* Facilitate scheduling of testings as well as appointments with referral coordinator * Handles telephone triage for Pediatric Associates of Fall River and performs lab functions as directed by Lab Manager.
* Sets up and restocks exam room, maintaining order and cleanliness of room, workstations, and general clinical area.
* Fills out necessary paperwork for patient prior to provider’s visit.
* Keeps working environment clean, safe, and organized for patients and staff.
Reports any malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate person.
* Attends all necessary meetings to be updated on policies and procedures.
* Documents all information in the medical record in a legible style, dated and signed with credentials.
* Follows OSHA, HIPPA and safety requirements for rooms and documentation.
* Performs other duties as assigned, including cross-training in other functional areas if needed * Maintains a professional and positive attitude with interacting with patients and other staff members.
*QUALIFICATIONS/SPECIFICATIONS* Education: Massachusetts Nursing License from accredited LPN/RN program, Maintain CME’s appropriate for licensing Current CPR Certification Experience: One year work experience in a medical setting with pediatric experience preferred Scheduling: Hours may include and are limited to day, evening, weekends as well as holidays, Occasional overtime may be required and/ or hours may be shortened as business needs dictates Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.
computer keyboard use for extended periods of time Working Conditions: Exposure to bodily fluids, toxic substances, medical preparations, and other conditions common to office environment.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be needed when situation arises.
Supervision: Office Nurse is under direct supervision of Clinical Nurse Manager.
